Brunch at the flower market, anyone?
Last week I had the opportunity to pay a visit to Poppy + Rose in DTLA. The brunch location is actually on the same block and across the street from the LA Flower Market. Although it looks tiny from the outside, it’s actually very spacious within and has a homely vibe. Be forewarned however, it’s impossible to find street parking in DTLA so it’s likely you will have to pay in those ‘all day’ lots which range from $4-$8 depending what day you come by.

The restaurant doesn’t take reservations but even on a busy Saturday afternoon, we were able to be seated within 15 minutes– this can be credited to their system of ordering and paying at the register, then being seated right away. This way, they get people in and out quickly. I ordered the Pulled Pork hash with my eggs over medium ($13.50) with freshly squeezed OJ ($3.50) and Mariah ordered the buttermilk fried chicken and waffle ($13).

First off the atmosphere is very quaint. There are long communal tables but smaller tables as well, so there is almost always seating available. The way the location works is that because you are ordering your food before you are seated, after your food is brought to you, the server never returns, SO IF YOU NEED SOMETHING, ASK FOR IT THEN. We didn’t mind that fact and it’s not like it was impossible to flag down a server if you did end up needing something, but it’s a head up so you don’t think they have shitty service LOL.
The experience is relatively pleasant and if I ever do decide to pay a visit to the flower market again, I’ll be sure to grab a bite here to eat. The inside and table settings are incredibly aesthetic for anyone looking to enhance that aesthetic game.
